WSL roundup - gameweek 13

It was late goals galore in week 13 of the WSL.

The excitement was already high heading into the round. Manchester United opened things against Tottenham and the action closed across the city as Manchester City squared off against Arsenal, with four fascinating fixtures sandwiched in between.

Here's how it all went down.

Man Utd 3-0 Tottenham

The action got off to a hectic start as Manchester United bagged a fourth straight victory by dismantling Tottenham 3-0.

First-half goals from Vilde Boe Risa and Hayley Ladd had United in a commanding position at the break, and Leah Galton's tap-in on the hour mark sealed a dominant victory for Marc Skinner's side, for whom the day would get a little better soon after.

The Red Devils finish the weekend just two points off the top of the table.

Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea fell behind United into third place as they were held to a bitterly disappointing 0-0 draw with Brighton.

The Blues dominated possession and had a whopping 26 shots on goal, but Brighton goalkeeper Megan Walsh was in inspired form and even got a bit of help from the crossbar to keep the Blues at bay.

It's the first time Chelsea have failed to score in consecutive WSL games since October 2018.

Leicester 1-2 Aston Villa

Alisha Lehmann's 93rd-minute winner saw Aston Villa end their run of four straight losses in dramatic fashion away at Leicester City.

The visitors took the lead early on through a Jemma Purfield own goal, but Hannah Hampton returned the favour by firing into her own net late in the second half to tie things up. Both sides had chances to win the game, but it was Lehmann who tapped home the decisive goal.

Reading 3-2 Birmingham

Bottom side Birmingham nearly picked up another huge result but threw away a two-goal lead to fall 3-2 to flying Reading.

Gemma Lawley headed home inside three minutes to give the away side the lead, and Jade Pennock finished off a nice move to double Birmingham's advantage 30 minutes later, but they just couldn't hold on.

Justine Vanhaevermaet started the comeback with a header in first-half stoppage time, before Natasha Dowie tied things up from the penalty spot shortly after the break, and Emma Harries needed just ten more minutes to thunder home a glorious volley to complete the comeback.

West Ham 3-0 Everton

Everton were no match for West Ham as the Hammers roared to a comfortable 3-0 victory.

A scrappy opener from Katerina Svitkova came on the stroke of half-time, and Dagny Brynjarsdottir fired home a second shortly before the hour mark.

Claudia Walker, who saw an effort ruled out for offside, finally got in on the action in the dying embers, capitalising on a mistake from Izzy Christiansen to seal the victory.

Man City 1-1 Arsenal

The late-goal action spilled over into this last tie, with Arsenal's Tobin Heath rescuing a point for her side in the 92nd minute against Manchester City.

Khadija Shaw had put the hosts ahead earlier in the second half, tapping home in a move which was not stopped despite an accidental involvement from the referee, much to Arsenal's frustrations.

Caroline Weir and Lauren Hemp had good chances to double City's lead, but it was Heath who saved the day with a late strike to keep Arsenal two points clear at the top of the WSL.
