Friday's World Cup qualifying action didn't generate any tickets to Qatar in 2022, but a handful of sides moved one step closer to booking a place at the competition.

England need just a point against San Marino to guarantee a spot at the tournament, but all eyes in the final round of fixtures should be on Group C, where both Italy and Switzerland are in a straight shoot-out for one guaranteed spot.

Let's dive into the results.

Group C

Italy and Switzerland remain tied for points heading into the final round of fixtures after the two played out a 1-1 draw.

Silvan Widmer's banging opener was cancelled out by Giovanni Di Lorenzo, and Italy thought they were going to snatch all three points late on when Jorginho stepped up for a VAR-awarded penalty, but the Chelsea man sent his effort flying over the bar.

Northern Ireland 1-0 Lithuania

A second win of the competition for Northern Ireland, who had an own goal from Benas Satkus to thank for their three points.

They'll end their qualifying run against an Italy side who will be desperate for goals to ensure they better Switzerland's result against Bulgaria.

Group F

Moldova 0-2 Scotland

Scotland have been made to settle for a play-off spot in Group F, but they're doing their best to build up some momentum.

They thumped Moldova 2-0, with goals either side of half-time from Nathan Patterson and Che Adams.

Austria 4-2 Israel

There were plenty of goals to be had in Austria's meeting with Israel, five of which came in the second half.

Both sides are already out of the running, however, so it's a match which meant very little.

Denmark 3-1 Faroe Islands

Denmark kept up their perfect form in World Cup qualifying with a comfortable 3-1 win over the Faroe Islands.

That's nine wins on the bounce for the Danes, who were partying on Friday thanks to goals from Andreas Skov Olsen, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Joakim Maehle.

Group I

Andorra 1-4 Poland

Andorra could have been on the wrong end of a hiding when they went down to ten men inside the opening 20 seconds of their meeting with Poland, but they managed to hold on to a somewhat respectable 4-1 defeat.

The visitors have guaranteed at least a play-off spot and are technically still in with the slimmest of chances of topping the group.

England 5-0 Albania

Poland's victory over Albania means England are not yet officially qualified, but thanks to their 5-0 thumping of Albania, they're pretty much there.

All five goals came in the first half, with Harry Kane bagging three and Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson chipping in with one apiece, leaving England needing just one point against San Marino to guarantee a spot in Qatar.

Hungary 4-0 San Marino

The only side standing in England's way, San Marino fell to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Hungary.

That's now 36 goals they've shipped in their nine qualification matches, so England will fancy their chances.
