Women's Euro 2022: Provisional England squad announced
England manager Sarina Wiegman has chosen a provisional 28-player Lionesses squad for Euro 2022 this summer, which will be cut to a final group of 23 next month.
The headline news is that Steph Houghton and Fran Kirby are both included, having been doubts for the tournament due to injury and fatigue respectively.
Leah Williamson, officially listed among the midfielders rather than her typical club role as a defender, had already been announced as new England captain for Euro 2022, with Millie Bright and Ellen White now confirmed as vice-captains for the tournament.
Lucy Staniforth, Chloe Kelly and Sandy MacIver have returned to the fold after missing out in recent months and will have a chance to impress during training camp before Wiegman makes her final decisions. But injury has ruled Jordan Nobbs out of contention.

“The EUROs are getting closer, and this is a big step towards the tournament. We have a settled squad and I know we have players in our team that will give everything to make it a summer
to remember,” Wiegman said.
“It is important the players have the chance to get some rest now after a very busy season before we get back to our work. We then have a series of prep camps coming up and it is important we use this time to build an even closer connection on and off the pitch.
“We also look forward to welcoming those who have been working individually and with their clubs on their fitness in the past few weeks. We are hoping to have them back on the pitch when the series of pre-camps start, so we can see where they are at.”
England will play three warm-up friendlies in June, hosting Belgium at Molineux and Netherlands at Elland Road on 16 June and 24 June respectively, before facing Switzerland in Zurich on 30 June to conclude a prior five-day training camp in Basel.
The Lionesses then open their home Euros against Austria at Old Trafford on 6 July.
The deadline for all countries to submit their final 23-player squad is 10:59pm on 26 June.
