Women's Super League preview & predictions: 28 February

The Women's Super League returns on Sunday following a fortnight's absence due to the international break.

Sunday sees three rescheduled fixtures - originally intended for matchdays 10, 11 and 13 - take place, with important implications at either end of the table.

Sunday 28 February

Birmingham vs Manchester City

The clash between ninth place Birmingham and second place Manchester City has been moved to St. George's Park from the Blues' usual Damson Park home, as it has been deemed to not meet the requirements in the rules and regulations of the league - despite Birmingham having played there since 2014.

Birmingham have seen a plethora of their matches fall victim to the weather in 2021, and although they are without a league win since beating rivals Aston Villa on 14 November, they have only played four WSL fixtures in that time.

City go into Sunday's fixture in fine form having won their last seven league matches, and can move to within two points of leaders Chelsea with victory. Caroline Weir scored a worldie to wrap up Manchester derby victory for City in their last WSL outing, and went and netted another solo stunner for Scotland during the international break.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal

This is the fourth time that Aston Villa and Arsenal have attempted to face off in the WSL this season, with the previous three fixtures cancelled because of 'Dubai gate' (x1) and the weather (x2).

Hoping for fourth time lucky, Villa now have Marcus Bignot in interim charge - and he has won one of his two matches in the hot seat to leave the Midlands outfit four points clear of the drop zone. Marquee signing Mana Iwabuchi has been instrumental since her January arrival, netting the winner against Tottenham last time out and laying on a goal and assist during Villa's 2-2 draw with Reading.

Arsenal head into the game with their title challenge all but over following back-to-back losses to Manchester City and Chelsea, and their focus is now on securing the final Champions League spot. Jordan Nobbs and Jen Beattie are available once more following injury and Caitlin Foord - the Gunners' standout performer this term - is in contention to return. However, Kim Little, Steph Catley and Viktoria Schnaderbeck are all out as they continue their rehabilitation.

Tottenham vs Everton

A trio of victories under new boss Rehanne Skinner has seen Spurs pull six points clear of the relegation zone - however, they are without a win since the turn of the year. Tottenham have lost just once at home in the WSL all season - and that was a narrow 1-0 loss to Champions League chasing Manchester United.

Everton's lightening start to the season is now a distant memory; they have won just one of their last nine, and this came against bottom side Bristol City.

Fresh from making her England debut, Sandy MacIver is in contention to return to the Toffees starting XI, having missed their last two matches. She could be joined in the side by January recruit Jill Scott - fresh from making her 150th England appearance. Gabby George is also in contention to start for the first time since rupturing her ACL 12 months ago.
