Lyon and the Women's Champions League. It's getting a bit boring now, isn't it? They had their work cut out for them against a game Wolfsburg team, but in the end, it was the French champions who took the trophy home at Real Sociedad’s Anoeta Stadium on Sunday night.

Jean-Luc Vasseur's side looked to be cruising towards a fifth-straight European title when a strike from Eugenie Le Sommer and a wonderful finish from Saki Kumagai had them in control, but while two goals from the dominant French champions may usually represent a death sentence, Wolfsburg refused to accept they were beaten.

They emerged from the half-time interval looking more like the side who put nine past Glasgow City, and after Alexandra Popp headed in at the back post, we had a game on our hands.

The Germans turned the pressure on, but Sara Gunnarsdottir got on the end of a Le Sommer rebound at the death to make sure the Champions League stays in France.

Let's get into some player ratings!

Wolsburg

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Friederike Abt (GK) - 7/10 - Had a busy afternoon but dealt with the pressure well. Command of her area was strong and she produced a couple of excellent saves.

Anna Blasse (RB) - 6/10 - Veteran utility player really struggled at times, tried to create down the right but couldn't force it for her side.

Lena Goessling (CB) - 7/10 - Steady and commanding but unable to stem the steady tide of Lyon attacks. Experienced centre-back herself justice against an on-fire Le Sommer.

Sara Doorsun (CB) - 5/10 - In tears when she left the pitch due to injury in the first half, didn't do too much wrong but her side didn't really get started while she was on the pitch.

Dominique Janssen (LB) - 6/10 - The former Arsenal left-back looked steady in her new left-back role even up against the outstanding Cascarino.

Midfielders

Svenja Huth (RW) - 5/10 - Found herself sacrificed on the hour as Wolfsburg chased the game. Frequently showed for the ball but creatively ineffective for the most part.

Ingrid Syrstad Engen (CM) - 6/10 - Game sometimes passed her by but she gave as good as she got in a condensed engine room.

Alexandra Popp (CM) - 8/10 - Excellent finish gave Wolfsburg hope and she turned in an excellent battling performance.

Fridolina Rolfo (LW) - 7/10 - Livewire performance and terrorised the normally unshakeable Bronze, despite looking out of place playing off the left flank.

Pernille Harder (CF) - 5/10 - The Danish striker and 2018 Ballon d'Or runner-up had a disappointingly quiet outing in what could be her last appearance for Wolfsburg.

Ewa Pajor (CF) - 7/10 - The clinical striker turned in an industrious performance and created the goal that gave Wolfsburg hope. May have felt aggrieved to be subbed on the hour but often looked isolated.

Lyon

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Sarah Bouhaddi (GK) - 7/10 - With her dramatic contract stand-off now resolved, she was trusted to start a sixth Champions League final for the French club. Took a serious-looking knock for her troubles late on but her unwavering commitment meant she was always going to finish the game.

Lucy Bronze (RB) - 6/10 - The England defender was steady yet again. She was targeted as Wolfsburg piled on the pressure but dealt with it well, despite once or twice being spun by Rolfo.

Kadeisha Buchanan (CB) - 7/10 - She hasn't been a regular for this dominant Lyon team over the years but the Canadian looked accomplished - even if she may have done better for Popp's goal.

Wendie Renard (CB) - 9/10 - Typically dominant in the air, Renard was giving no quarter as her side battled towards yet another title. Showed why she remains one of the best around with another big performance.

Sakina Karchaoui (LB) - 6/10 - It's early days for the newcomer into the Lyon team but she by no means looked out of place as she marshalled and marauded down the left flank.

Midfielders

Kumagai impressed in midfield

Saki Kumagai (CM) - 7/10 - One of the underrated cogs of the Lyon team. The first Japanese scorer in a Champions League final, her pristine strike would have been worth the admission fee if there were any spectators.

Sara Gunnarsdottir (CM) - 9/10 - Held things together in the middle and popped up with the crucial decisive goal in improbable back-heeled-volleyed fashion. The Icelandic star put in an imperious performance and was up there with the best on the pitch.

Dzsenifer Marozsan (CAM) - 8/10 - Tasked with being the creator of the Lyon midfield three, and though her influence faded as the game grew on, she did what she was in the team to do. Frequently caused problems.

Delphine Cascarino (RW) - 9/10 - Close to her electric best as she looked like she was going to cause problems every time she got on the ball. The official UEFA Player of the Match.

Eugenie Le Sommer (CF) - 9/10 - Recalled for the final, her experience carried Lyon through. Composed head in front of goal when needed for the opener and typically menacing throughout.

Amel Majri (LW) - 6/10 - Often found herself tracking back to help out Karchaoui which came to the detriment of her attacking game. Didn't do much wrong but struggled to get herself into the game for the most part.
