Wolfsburg 0-4 Bayern Munich: Report, Ratings & Reaction as Champions Sign Off in Style

Bayern Munich rounded off another victorious Bundesliga campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win over Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena, with the home side subsequently missing out on Europa League qualification.

Bayern flew out of the blocks and took the lead with less than four minutes on the clock.  Thomas Müller’s measured through ball released Kingsley Coman, and without breaking stride the Frenchman fired a pin-point drive across Koen Casteels into the bottom corner. The assist saw Müller notch a his 21st league assist of the season, a new Bundesliga record.

Bayern doubled their lead thanks to Mickaël Cuisance’s sublime left-footed curling effort from all of 25 yards, leaving Casteels clutching at thin air.

The home side should have been reduced to ten men before the break, with Casteels rushing out of his goal to intercept a Bayern through ball and handling the ball out of his area, though he somehow escaped without punishment.

The second half started slowly but sparked into life with little less than 20 minutes to play.
Cuisance showed quick feet in the box to outwit the lunging Joshua Guilavogui, with the Wolfsburg captain bringing down the Bayern man and receiving a red card. Robert Lewandowski stepped up to coolly roll the penalty home and claim his 34th league goal of the season.

Müller showed a neat touch to control a cross just eight yards out before powering the ball past a helpless Casteels. Another classy display from the visitors as Wolfsburg miss out on European football.

Wolfsburg's Best Player - Josip Brekalo

A tough afternoon for Wolfsburg, who never gave up, but ultimately didn't have the quality to breach the Bayern defence. If the home side were to have found a way past Neuer, Brekalo would undoubtedly have been involved.

The Croatia international was central to every Wolfsburg attack, popping up all over the midfield and helping out defensively. Clearly frustrated by the lack of quality around him, the youngster took matters into his own hands on numerous occasions, though his long-range efforts failed to really test a top-class goalkeeper like Neuer.

A fruitless afternoon for the midfielder, but certainly not through lack of effort.

Another triumphant campaign for Bayern, then. Since wrapping up the title with two games to spare, they have fielded two slightly weakened sides - yet their imperious form continues.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s men were solid if not spectacular, with numerous chances wasted in untypical Bayern fashion. Despite not being at their clinical best, that didn't stop the visitors from recording another emphatic win, and they now turn their attention to next week's DFB-Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen.

After a sloppy start to the game, Cuisance produced a stunning performance to secure his side the victory.

The game hung in the balance at 1-0 and Wolfsburg were beginning to look a threat on the break, but the French youngster's incredible curling effort all but ended the game as a contest before half-time.

The 20-year-old looked assured in his passing and was always looking for the ball. His nimble footwork in the box left two Wolfsburg defenders on the floor before he was brought down to win his side the penalty which Lewandowski converted. A mature performance from a youngster with a bright future ahead of him.
