Manchester United have confirmed that Raphael Varane has picked up a minor injury, ruling him out of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham.

After being rested for Thursday's trip to Real Betis for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last 16 tie, Varane was expected to return to the starting lineup on Sunday.

However, he was surprisingly left out of the matchday squad entirely, leading to questions of his whereabouts.

United have now revealed that Varane has picked up a minor injury and will return to the fold following the international break. He is expected to be fit for their trip to Newcastle on April 2.

Having retired from international duty following the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Varane will also be able to recover at United's Carrington training base instead of jetting off with the France squad.

United can reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2020 with victory over Fulham at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has opted to keep club captain Harry Maguire at centre-back alongside Lisandro Martinez due to Varane's injury.
