They used to say 'records are made to broken', but these days it's more along the lines of 'records are made for Erling Haaland to break and keep forever'.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker made a monstrous start to life at Manchester City and has set record after record at the Etihad Stadium, but he is not the only player to have found goals easy to come by in a debut Premier League campaign.

Here are the players with the most goals in their first Premier League season.

Unsurprisingly, the record for most Premier League goals scored in a debut season is currently held by Man City forward Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian netted 36 times in just 35 matches during the 2022/23 season following his switch from Borussia Dortmund to Man City, currently holding the record for most strikes in a single Premier League campaign.

Kevin Phillips previously held the record after he struck 30 times in 36 league games during the 1999/00 season, leading Sunderland to a remarkable seventh-placed finish and also earning the European Golden Shoe award.

Phillips had never previously played in the top flight but 23 goals in 26 games the season prior helped Sunderland achieve promotion as First Division champions.

The Premier League had recognised Phillips as the record holder despite the fact that Andy Cole scored 34 goals during his first season in the top flight. This feat, however, occurred in the 1993/94 campaign when teams played 42 matches instead of 38.

Mohamed Salah also managed 32 goals in his debut season with Liverpool, but he had previously played in the English top flight for Chelsea.
