Where are they now? Chelsea's 2005 title winners
The 2004/05 Chelsea side went down in history for the Blues, as they lifted the Premier League title and became champions of England for the first time in 50 years.
Jose Mourinho came to Stamford Bridge as a European champion with Porto and set up a stunning defensive team that conceded just 15 goals in the league that season, claiming the title in April with plenty of time to spare.
But where are the members of that squad now? 90min takes a look...
GOALKEEPERS
Petr Cech (35 apps): The Czech Republic stopper signed in the summer of 2004 from Rennes and was immediately installed as the number one by Mourinho. He conceded just 13 goals that season, keeping 24 clean sheets, a record that still stands today. Cech is now a technical and performance advisor at Stamford Bridge, but also serves as an emergency backup goalkeeper to the first team despite retiring in 2019.
Carlo Cudicini (3 apps): The Italian was a fan favourite prior to this season as the number one, but he lost his place in the side. Cudicini only made three appearances in the league as Chelsea strolled to the title, and is now the loan player technical coach at the club.
Lenny Pidgeley (1 sub app): Pidgeley got a run out as a substitute after the title was already wrapped up. He retired in 2018 due to suffering with mental health issues and now lives a quiet life away from football.
DEFENDERS
Glen Johnson (16 apps): Before he became England's first choice right-back, Johnson was in the Chelsea side winning titles. He retired in 2018 after his Stoke contract wasn't renewed and now spends his time reminiscing on Instagram and playing golf. Alright for some, init?
Paulo Ferreira (29 apps): The Portuguese full-back followed Mourinho over from Porto and was first choice in the best defence in Premier League history. He now works for the club as a technical loan player advisor and is currently studying for his coaching badges, as well as acting as an ambassador for the club.
Wayne Bridge (15 apps): The English defender was a back-up option for Mourinho in this season, but he made a decent amount of appearances from left-back. These days, Bridge is a stay at home dad as his pop-star wife Frankie continues to tour the world (well, not right now, obviously).
William Gallas (28 apps): The French man was essential in this team at left-back before he fell out with the club and left for Arsenal. After doing a tour of London and playing in Australia, he retired in 2014 and is now teasing a new project on Instagram - although it's unclear what that project is.
Robert Huth (10 apps): Before his incredible title triumph with Leicester, Huth was a Premier League champion with Chelsea as a backup centre-back. He retired in January 2019 due to a battle with injuries and is now a defensive coach for the German Under-21 national team.
Ricardo Carvalho (25 apps): The Portuguese defender was another who followed Mourinho from Porto and he formed a rock solid defensive partnership with John Terry. He went down as one of the best defenders in Premier League history and is now assistant manager to Andre Villas-Boas at Ligue 1 club Marseille.
John Terry (36 apps): Captain, leader, legend. Chelsea's best ever defender was the rock at the back. After retiring at Aston Villa, he became assistant manager and is still there now.
Celestine Babayaro (4 apps): Babayaro was coming to the end of his Chelsea career during this season, but still made a handful of appearances. He now works as a football agent.
Steven Watt (1 sub app) & Nuno Morais (2 sub apps): The two youngsters made appearances once the title was wrapped up for Chelsea. Watt is now the manager of Hythe Town in the Isthmian League South East division, while Morais retired in 2019 as the record appearance maker for Cypriot side APOEL.
MIDFIELDERS
Claude Makelele (36 apps): One of the best defensive midfielders of all time cemented that reputation under Mourinho as a regular starter. After a spell in charge of Ligue 1 club Bastia and Belgian side Eupen, Makelele returned to Stamford Bridge in 2019 as a youth coach and technical mentor.
Alexei Smertin (16 apps): A highly rated Russian international, Smertin joined as an experienced pro before Mourinho came but never really got going in Blue. He made enough appearances for a medal in this campaign though! He now works for the Russian FA in two roles, as director of regional policies and international policies and also as an anti-discrimination and anti-racism officer. Not sure he's doing the best of jobs though.
Jiri Jarosik (14 apps): The Czech Republic midfielder signed in January that season, and Jarosik made 14 appearances before then leaving the club the following summer. He's back in his homeland now as manager of second tier side Celje.
Scott Parker (4 apps): The young England international didn't make much of an impression under Mourinho at Chelsea but he went on to have a more than decent Premier League career. Now the manager of west London rivals Fulham.
Tiago (34 apps): Mourinho brought in a fellow countryman to help bolster the midfield and performed well, memorably scoring a screamer against Manchester United. After serving as an assistant to Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid following retirement, he recently resigned as manager of Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes after a bad spell in charge.
Geremi (13 apps): Geremi was a squad player throughout his time at Chelsea but still got a Premier League medal for his hard work. After retiring, he became the president of the SYNAFOC, the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers.
Frank Lampard (38 apps): We all know who Frank Lampard is and what Frank Lampard does now. The club's all-time top goalscorer was the top scorer in this season and scored the goals that clinched the title against Bolton. Now manages some club from west London.
Felipe Oliveira (1 sub app) & Anthony Grant (1 sub app): Two other youngsters that Mourinho gave minutes to once the title was clinched, Oliveira is retired but Grant is still playing for Swindon Town in League One.
FORWARDS
Joe Cole (28 apps): Arguably England's most skilful player of his generation, Mourinho made sure Cole did the hard work as a winger in his side. After retiring from playing in 2018, Cole is now a youth coach and pundit for BT Sport.
Damien Duff (30 apps): One of the most underrated members of Mourinho's title winning side, Duff was first choice for the whole season. He recently resigned as a coach for the Republic of Ireland national team, having spent less than a year in the role.
Arjen Robben (18 apps): The legendary winger's time in London was marred with injuries but he is still fondly remembered at Stamford Bridge. After retiring in 2019 at Bayern Munich, Robben made a remarkable return to his hometown club FC Groningen last year and is still playing in the Eredivisie.
Mateja Kezman (25 apps): Kezman came to the Premier League with a reputation as a clinical goalscorer, but he failed to live up to expectations and left after just one season. Since retiring, Kezman has become an agent and represents highly rated Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Eidur Gudjohnsen (37 apps): Gudjohnsen was the forward with the most appearances during this campaign under Mourinho. Is now the assistant coach of the Icelandic national team.
Didier Drogba (26 apps): The legendary Ivorian striker won the Premier League in his first season in England but it would be a few years before we saw him at his best. He retired in 2018 after a spell with American club Phoenix Rising, who he part owns in retirement.
Adrian Mutu (2 sub apps): Mutu made two appearances before falling out with Mourinho over whether he was actually injured or not. He was banned from football in September over failing a drugs test and was sacked by the club. He is now the manager of the Romania U21 side. Moving on...
Mikael Forssell (1 sub app): A highly rated prospect back in the day, the Finnish striker made a brief appearance for the first team after returning from a loan with Birmingham after getting injured. He is now an attacking coach back in Finland with HJK Helsinki's youth side.
