When to play your FPL Wildcard in final gameweeks of 2023/24

  • Premier League season is approaching its climax with FPL players looking for big points hauls
  • Managers will be targeting double gameweeks to get the most out of their Wildcards
  • Right tactic could also include using remaining Triple Captain and Bench Boost chips

The end of the Premier League season is rapidly approaching and that means there's not much time left for FPL players to use their remaining chips.

The Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost options all carry significant advantages but the second Wildcard offers managers the chance to reshape squads and maximise their points returns before 2023/24 comes to a close.

Wondering how to navigate the final few weeks of the FPL season? Here's all the information you need about when to use your Wildcard and how to get the most out of your team.

When should I play my Wildcard in FPL?

There are a few ideal opportunities for managers to use their second FPL Wildcard of the season during the final few months of the campaign.

One big tactic is to use it the gameweek before a double gameweek, especially if you still have the Bench Boost chip to use. Bringing in a new set of players will freshen up your squad and allow you to pack out your bench with assets with two fixtures each to ensure the best possible points return.

With that tactic in mind, it makes sense to use your Wildcard relatively soon.

When is the next double gameweek in FPL?

Fixtures for Gameweek 34 have been confirmed and FPL players now know it is the biggest opportunity for a large haul before the end of the season.

Gameweek 34 sees a total of 13 matches take place between Saturday 20 April and Thursday 25 April. Seven fixtures are scheduled over the weekend - Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United will all play in the FA Cup semi-finals instead - before a further six in midweek.

Arsenal and Liverpool are among the sides who will play twice in Gameweek 34. The Reds have two away games to deal with as they visit Fulham and local rivals Everton in quick succession, while title rivals Arsenal travel to Wolves before hosting Chelsea in midweek.

As some clubs still have fixtures to rearrange for later in the campaign, there will be more double gameweeks before the season is over. Chelsea and Tottenham still have matches in lieu and are likely to fulfil them in Gameweek 35 or 36. The two clubs are also likely to join Man City, Brighton, Man Utd and Newcastle with two matches each in Gameweek 37.

Which players should I sign for my FPL Wildcard?

If you've decided to hit Gameweek 34 with your Wildcard, the obvious tactic will be to fill your team up with as many players with two games as possible.

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) is one of the heaviest scorers on the game and has to be included for the run-in, while Darwin Nunez (£7.5m) or Luis Diaz (£7.5m) could help bolster your score. With games against Fulham and Everton, a cheap Reds defender like Conor Bradley (£4.2m) or Joe Gomez (£4.6m) could bag some clean sheet points.

Big Arsenal assets like Bukayo Saka (£9m) and Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.3m) have to be considered, while the likes of Declan Rice (£5.5m), Kai Havertz (£7.2m) and Leandro Trossard (£6.5m) could offer some variety to your Wildcard team.

Crystal Palace have two home games in Gameweek 34 and a couple of Eagles stars could be worth a punt. Daniel Munoz (£4.5m) is a frugal option in defence, while Jean-Philippe Mateta (£4.9m) has been scoring of late and Eberechi Eze (£6m) could be a quality addition in midfield.
