With the group stages in the rear-view mirror, things are about to get serious in the 2021/22 Champions League.

It is hard to beat European knockout football and the drama starts with the last 16 draw, where those who remain in the competition will learn their first hurdle on the road to the final in May.

Here is everything you need to know about this year's draw and where you can watch it unfold...


When is the Champions League last 16 draw?

  • The draw for the knockout stages of the 2021/22 Champions League will take place on Monday 13 December.
  • Things will get underway at 11:00 UK time.

Where is the last 16 draw taking place?

  • The draw is taking place at UEFA headquarters, located in Nyon, Switzerland.

How can I watch the last 16 draw on TV/live stream?

  • UEFA are providing free live coverage of the draw. The stream, which you can find by clicking here, can be accessed from 11:00 on Monday 13 December.
  • BT Sport will also be broadcasting proceedings in the UK, with things set to kick off at 10:45.

Which teams are seeded in the last 16 draw?

  • The 16 teams in the draw will be split into two groups: seeded and unseeded.
  • Those who finished top of their group will be placed in the seeded section, where they can only draw teams that finished second in a two-legged affair. The group winners are also guaranteed to have home advantage in the second leg.
  • There are a few more things to note. Namely, teams from the same country cannot play each other at this stage and sides who squared off in the group stages must be kept apart too.
  • Seeded teams: Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Ajax, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Lille, Juventus
  • Unseeded teams: Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting CP, Atletico Madrid, Inter, Benfica, Atalanta or Villarreal, Salzburg, Chelsea

When are the last 16 matches being played?

  • The first legs are scheduled for Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 February, 2022.
  • The second legs will take place on one of Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 March, 2022.
