When can Manchester City win the Premier League title?
Manchester City missed the opportunity to wrap up the 2020/21 Premier League title as a result of defeat against Chelsea in their last outing. But Pep Guardiola's side are still only one game away from sealing a third title in the space of four years for the club and a fifth overall in a decade.
City endured a difficult start to the season, winning only five of their opening 13 games, while they were even treading water in the bottom half of the table until late November.
But Pep Guardiola’s side finally found their rhythm as the festive period approached and a run of 15 consecutive league wins from just before Christmas until early March propelled them from mid-table to suddenly being comfortably clear at the top of the standings.
City only conceded five goals across those 15 games, with centre-back Ruben Dias staking his claim to be considered for PFA Player of the Year after forging an ironclad partnership with a resurgent John Stones. Further up the pitch, Ilkay Gundogan found his scoring boots and has already doubled his best ever career goal tally in a single league season.
Gabriel Jesus was also been scoring important goals, while Phil Foden continued to flourish.
When will Manchester City mathematically be Premier League champions?
Second place Manchester United are 10 points behind with a game in hand.
Were United to win all of their four remaining fixtures, the most points they can get is 82.
City currently have 80 points, which means they need just three more points from the nine available in their three remaining games for the title to be mathematically out of reach of their nearest rivals.
As things stand, one more win would secure the title with three games to spare. That means City could win the Premier League next time out away at Newcastle on Wednesday 12 May. The sky blues would also be confirmed as champions if United lose their next match 24 hours before that.
When will the trophy presentation be?
With back-to-back away games coming up, that would likely mean City being presented with the trophy at home on the final day of the season on Sunday 23 May, when some fans should even be allowed back in the Etihad Stadium.
There are, as of yet, no details around plans for City's title celebrations, although limited fans will be permitted to attend games in England for the final two game-weeks of the season in accordance with the UK government's current roadmap to ease restrictions.
How man points can Manchester City get this season?
If City win all three games, the maximum points tally they can get is 89. Even in this most challenging of seasons, which at one stage was expected to produce a very low winning points total, that would still be an impressive final tally in the circumstances.
