West Ham youngster Mipo Odubeko has joined Championship side Huddersfield on loan for the rest of the 2021/22 season. He has also signed a new contract with his parent club until 2023.

Dublin-born Odubeko, who spent time in the youth academies of Manchester City and Manchester United before joining the Hammers two years ago, is still only 18 but has been knocking on the door of the first-team in east London since the club sold Sebastien Haller in January.

The 18-year-old sufficiently impressed manager David Moyes to be handed a debut against Stockport County in the FA Cup third round and became a regular part of the matchday squad in the Premier League for the remainder of the campaign soon afterwards.

However, Odubeko stayed an unused substitute all 18 times he was named in the matchday squad in the league and never got on the pitch. He has not been included so far this season and has instead scored twice in two Premier League 2 game for the club’s Under-23 team.

90min exclusively revealed last week that the teenager has not been content with his role at West Ham and wanted to be able to play first-team football as soon as possible. Joining Huddersfield on loan should grant him that wish – he has already been assigned the Terriers’ number seven shirt.

A statement from West Ham read: “Everyone at the club would like to wish Mipo all the best for his loan spell, and look forward to welcoming him back to east London with the benefits of having such an experience behind him.”

Huddersfield head coach Carlos Coberan has described Odubeko as a player with ‘potential’ and said he is ‘looking forward’ to working with him this season.

The Yorkshire club have made a strong start to the new Championship campaign, taking 10 points from their opening five games and occupying a playoff spot at this early stage.
