West Brom are readying a fresh contract offer for midfielder Matheus Pereira just two months after he arrived on a permanent deal from Sporting CP.

The Brazilian signed for the club in the summer in an £8.25m deal after helping the Baggies earn promotion to the Premier League during his loan spell last term. Pereira's 17 assists led the second tier last time out as Slaven Bilic's side secured an automatic promotion spot.

The 24-year-old was signed on a four-year deal worth £30,000-a-week in the summer, but The Telegraph understands the Baggies are already willing to offer Pereira a bumper new deal worth in the region of £45,000-a-week in addition to a further year being added to his contract.

The pay rise will take the crafty midfielder closer to the club's top earners, which include Jake Livermore, Kieran Gibbs and Charlie Austin.

Pereira, meanwhile, has started life in the Premier League brightly despite his side's struggles, with one goal and two assists in six games.

The Baggies are yet to taste victory in 2020/21, although their three draws mean they sit above Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham in 17th.

The Brazilian's only strike so far - a delightful free-kick in the 5-2 defeat to Everton - has been arguably the standout moment in the Baggies' season.

Pereira will undoubtedly be a key figure for Bilic in their bid to survive this term. After conceding 13 times in their opening four games, greater defensive solidity has seen West Brom concede just once in their last two outings - picking up two points in the process.

Bilic's side have a great chance of collecting their first victory of the season when they visit Fulham on Monday evening (2 November). That game is followed by a home clash with Tottenham on 8 November.
