Ashley Hatch has agreed to a new contract extension with the reigning NWSL champions Washington Spirit, keeping the Golden Boot winner with the team through 2023 with a club option for 2024.
Hatch’s 10 regular season goals across 23 appearances in 2021 were enough to claim the NWSL Golden Boot. The former Brigham Young University star added another goal in the postseason during her team’s championship run, a game-winner against North Carolina.
After a historic season at both an individual and team level, D.C.’s star forward is officially sticking around at the club for two more years.
“We’re very excited to have Ashley as a part of the Spirit family,” interim head coach Kris Ward said. “She is an admirable player on and off the field, and is truly only at the beginning of what will continue to be a stellar career. We look forward to seeing her continued development as a part of this squad. Here’s to many more Golden Boot trophies in the future.”
Hatch joined Washington in 2018 via trade from North Carolina alongside Taylor Smith. Since then, Hatch has led the Spirit in scoring in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and was named to the NWSL Best XI First Team in 2021, a career-first for the forward.
“After the career year that Ashley had, it was only right to extend her contract,” club president Ben Olsen said. “Her work rate and ability to finish off plays was critical in our run to the cup and we are pleased she’s sticking around for a while.”
Hatch was called up to the United States Women’s National Team last month for two friendlies against Australia, scoring her first career goal for the USWNT just 24 seconds into the first match of the road trip. Hatch scored a second goal in the second match against Australia in the 4th minute.
