Vivianne Miedema became the first player in WSL history to reach 100 goal involvements during Arsenal's 4-2 victory over Birmingham.

The Dutch striker has chipped in with 70 goals and 30 assists in just 83 appearances since joining the Gunners from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2017.

Miedema has provided numerous moments of magic in an red shirt, but her history-making moment was more of a low key affair, as she doubled her side's advantage just after the half hour mark with a tap in from close range.

Having led 3-0, the Gunners survived a late fight back from Birmingham to ultimately run out 4-2 winners, with Rafaelle, Beth Mead and Caitlin Foord also on the scoresheet. Mead's goal was her 50th goal for the club, while Jordan Nobbs was introduced from the bench in stoppage time for her 250th Arsenal appearance, wrapping up a day of milestones at Borehamwood.

“So much history today,” Eidevall said at full time. “It’s obviously huge and I don’t think she’ll (Miedema) personally care about it because she’ll care about the next game and how to help the team be as good as possible but obviously it’s a result of all the great things she’s has been doing in the WSL since she arrived here so we’re of course really proud and really happy to have her.”

Miedema was deployed in the number 10 role for the third successive WSL match, with January arrival Stina Blackstenius continuing to lead the line. The Netherlands international has impressed since moving to a midfield role, with the position utilising her tendency to drop deep and enabling her passing and vision to shine.

“I think Viv enjoys the role," Eidevall added. "I think Viv enjoys feeling involved in the team, feeling connected with the team, and I think that’s such a huge part of football, seeing how we make sure that players feel connected and not isolated.

"It’s the same with pressing - if you feel that you’re pressing alone and no one is covering behind you, it’s not a nice feeling. But when you feel like you contribute to that it’s a great feeling. Same with offence. I think the way we play football at the moment helps her feel involved and connected and I think she’s enjoying that."

The milestone is one of a number of WSL records that Miedema currently holds. The 25-year-old is the league's all-time top scorer, while her 22 goals during the 2017/18 campaign is a league record for most goals in a single season.

She also has more hat-tricks than any other player in WSL history (five), and her iconic 10 goal involvements during Arsenal's 11-1 win over Bristol City in 2019 is also a league record.
