Vitor Ferreira: Things to know about the Portuguese midfielder

Wolves avoided becoming the victims of a FA Cup giant killing on Friday night as they triumphed over sixth-tier Chorley.

In a game fairly low on quality it was one moment of pure brilliance that decided the outcome, with Vitor Ferreira (otherwise known as Vitinha) producing a wonder strike from over 30 yards out to find the top corner and send Wolves through to the fifth round.

That strike gave a glimpse of what the 20-year old on loan from Porto was capable of. And here's what you need to know about him.

1. He can really strike a ball

Just in case you haven't seen the aforementioned screamer, he it is in all its glory.

The goal came in the 12th minute and proved to be the decisive moment of magic that saw the midlands club through to the next round.

2. A regular goalscorer

That stunner wasn't a one-off for the Portuguese midfielder. Vitinha has pedigree in front of goal.

The 20-year old added to three assists by scoring eight goals in just 15 games from midfield for Porto B in Liga Portugal 2 in the 2019/20 campaign.

He ended the season as the division's highest scoring midfielder along with Scotsman Ryan Gauld - FIFA career mode players may recognise that name - despite playing fewer games than most of his competitors.

3. A European champion

The season before last Vitinha was involved in the Under-19 Porto side that lifted the UEFA Youth League - the equivalent of the Champions League at that level.

Ferreira made a big contribution to the cause, appearing eight times for the side throughout the tournament and bagging an assist in the process.

4. Technically gifted

The 20-year old is very highly thought of in Portugal, and in the FA Cup on Friday night he showed why.

As well as scoring a wonderful goal, Vitinha mesmerised his counterparts with quick feet and impressive control at times.

He also showed the ability to control a game, achieving a 90% pass accuracy against Chorley.

5. Has represented Portugal at multiple youth levels

Although Ferreira has never turned out for the senior team, he's part of a very promising Portuguese generation of footballers and has featured for the Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 youth sides.

He has four goals in 37 caps across the four teams, including appearances at the Under-19 European Championships in 2018 (which Portugal won) and the Toulon Tournament in 2019.

It can't be too long until we see him earn a senior call up.

6. 2019 Toulon Tournament Breakthrough Player

The highlight of his international career to date was the Toulon Tournament in 2019.

Despite scoring just one goal and his side only finishing fifth, Vitinha was named the event's Breakthrough Player, while also taking up a midfield spot in the team of the tournament alongside a certain Douglas Luiz.

Now that's potential.
