Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior has admitted he might not spend his entire career with the club due to a promise he made to his father.

Los Blancos announced in 2017 that they had reached an agreement to sign Vinicius from boyhood club Flamengo, with the deal completed a year later upon turning 18.

During his teenage years, Vinicius struggled to make much of an immediate impact at Real Madrid - in his first three seasons, he scored 14 goals in 118 club games and was criticised for his wastefulness on the ball.

But during the 2021/22 campaign, Vinicius turned a corner and announced himself as one of the world's finest players, grabbing 22 goals and 20 assists as Real Madrid secured a La Liga and Champions League double.

90min revealed earlier this week that Real Madrid will soon announce that Vinicius has signed a new long-term contract, with reports in Spain suggesting the delay has been due to club president Florentino Perez testing positive for Covid-19 recently.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean that Vinicius will stick around at the Santiago Bernabeu forever, revealing in an interview with France Football and L'Equipe that his father wants him to return to Flamengo someday.

"I think I could stay here my whole career, but the club of my life is Flamengo. I promised my father I would go back one day. I have to keep this promise," Vinicius said.

He added: "I love life here in general, and it's going well for my family too. When my loved ones walk around, they are recognised and they wish us nothing but happiness. Little by little, I discovered this new life, new emotions, a fervor...Madrid is unique. Everyone around the world tells me about this club. And apart from that, I like it. I'm quite a homebody but we do a lot of activities."
