Barcelona captain Vicky Losada has confirmed that this season will be her last at the club, amid strong rumours that she will be joining WSL side Manchester City ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Losada captained Barcelona to a league, cup and Champions League treble in 2020/21, becoming the first club not from either France or Germany to be crowned European champions in 14 years.

Barça, underpinned by a core of Spanish players, ran riot in the Champions League final against Chelsea to win 4-0, with Losada herself coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes.

After adding the Copa de la Reina to complete an incredible treble, defeat against domestic rivals Atletico Madrid denied Barça the chance of recording an historic perfect league season, having won 28 of 28 games up to that point.

There are still five games left to play, which will now provide Losada an opportunity to say goodbye.

“This will be my last season at the club. Everything that I have experienced as a Barça player has made me the happiest person in the world,” she announced in an emotional statement.

30-year-old Losada joined La Masia way back in 2004 and has spent 13 years with the Barcelona first-team across four separate spells, the most recent of which began in 2016 after her time with Arsenal. She has also played for Espanyol and Western New York Flash during her career.

Rumours have gathered pace that Losada will return to England, where she was previously an FA Cup and league cup winner with Arsenal and included in the 2015/16 PFA WSL team of the year.

She would be a welcome replacement in City’s midfield for the departed Sam Mewis, who made an enormous impact at he club in her only season before quickly returning to the United State. City have also lost Mewis’ USWNT midfield teammate Rose Lavelle after a single season.
