The Vancouver Whitecaps have waived center back Erik Godoy.

He departs the Canadian MLS side with three goals and one assist in 64 overall appearances.

“We are very thankful to Erik for all his contributions at the club as he played a key role during his time in Vancouver,” sporting director Axel Schuster said in a release.

“Following an open conversation with Erik, all parties agreed that this is the right time for him and our club to move in different directions. We will continue to support Erik as he looks for a new club and we wish him all the best in the next step of his career.”

Yael Averbuch West hosted none other than Christian Fuchs for the latest episode of Football Americana. The Charlotte FC captain provided insight into the creation of Major League Soccer’s newest expansion team, and bringing European culture into the American side. The Premier League winner also revealed his future aspirations, hinting at a potential career at coaching once he hangs up his boots. Tune in to hear it all from Christian Fuchs.

Godoy first arrived in 2019 on loan from Argentine Primera Division side Colon de Santa Fe before securing the permanent move. Despite a good start to his Vancouver Whitecaps run, the player saw injuries in 2020 and 2021 that severely limited his time on the pitch.

He came back stronger in 2022, scoring one goal in six appearances this season and helping the team win the 2022 Canadian Championship over Toronto FC before parting ways.

The Whitecaps have seen a busy transfer window, adding Julian Gressel and Alessandro Schopf to fight for a top seven spot on the Western Conference table. The Canadian side currently sits in 11th place, with 27 points in 23 games.
