Real Madrid's midfield lynchpin Toni Kroos has an outside chance of returning for the trip, but Marcelo remains a doubt with a leg injury.

Gareth Bale's return to form was stunted by a muscle injury and the Welshman is expected to miss out, while Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos will not feature.

Valencia, meanwhile, will be without Denis Cheryshev with the Russian missing until October with a knee problem.

These two sides have a long, storied history with the giants of Spanish football facing off 191 times previously. Historically, Real have a clear advantage winning 101 meetings to their opponents' 51, while 39 games have ended in a draw.

The most famous match between the duo was the 2000 Champions League final, which Los Blancos won 3-0 thanks to goals from Fernando Morientes, Steve McManaman and Raul.

Ancelotti's side face their stiffest test of the season heading into an away atmosphere that is likely to be raucous.

They will be brimming with confidence following their midweek triumph in Milan, but their performance left a lot to be desired and Los Blancos cannot afford a slow start on Sunday.

Carlos Soler has been one of the standout performers in La Liga so far this campaign - which was rewarded with a call-up to the Spain squad - and his goal threat from midfield will dominate Ancelotti's thinking.

However, Real Madrid have not been shy in front of goal in the opening weeks of the season - hitting 13 goals already - and the attacking threat of Vinicius Junior and Benzema should prove the difference this weekend.

Prediction: Valencia 1-3 Real Madrid
