The USWNT will face Spain in an international friendly at El Sadar Stadium in October.

The world champions will face La Roja - currently ranked eighth in the world - on Tuesday 11 October, four days after their hotly-anticipated meeting with European champions England at Wembley four days earlier.

Spain also face Euro 2022 semi finalists Sweden during October's international break, hosting Peter Gerhardsson's side at the Estadio El Arcángel on 7 October.

The match will be the fourth meeting in the space of four years between the USWNT and Spain, with the former currently boasting a 100% record against their European opponents.

The pair met in January 2019 in the buildup to the World Cup that summer. Christen Press netted the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory for the USWNT.

They then met five months later in the last 16 of the 2019 World Cup. Megan Rapinoe scored two penalties as the USWNT progressed to the quarter finals with a narrow 2-1 victory. Jenni Hermoso was on the scoresheet for Spain.

Their most recent meeting came at the 2020 SheBelieves Cup, where the USWNT needed an 87th minute Julie Ertz goal to secure a 1-0 victory.

October's friendly will act as preparation for next summer's World Cup, which takes place in Australia and New Zealand between 10 July and 20 August.

Spain - who were beaten in the quarter finals of Euro 2022 by eventual champions England - will be without talisman Alexia Putellas for the fixture, as the Barcelona midfielder continues her recovery from an ACL injury suffered on the eve of the European Championships.
