The US men’s national team is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in a new friendly scheduled for December 18, the soccer Federation announced on Tuesday.

The match will be held at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The friendly is scheduled outside of an official international sports window, and is expected to be composed of mostly United States-based players. To prepare for the match, Berhalter will conduct  a training camp in Carson commencing on December 5.

This will be the third meeting between the two countries since the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina was formed in 1992.

The American side dominated the first match, with a hat trick by Jozy Altidore inspiring the 4-3 victory on August 14, 2013. The two then met again during the 2018 schedule, culminating in a 0-0 draw.

The U.S. Soccer Federation admitted to scheduling the match to prepare the American side for the January round of World Cup qualifiers.

After the decisive matches in November against Mexico and Jamaica, the USMNT will face El Salvador at home on January 27, Canada away on the 30 and host Honduras on February 2.

The U.S. currently stands in second place, behind rivals Mexico, with 11 points in six matches and a record of 3-2-1.

The USMNT will continue to hold the customary January training camp to enable Major League Soccer players to maintain fitness levels during their offseason. The Americans playing abroad are set to join training as the World Cup qualifiers approach.
