Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and PSG have been set deadlines to join the newly formed Super League
La Liga will not ban Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid, even though they intend to join the breakaway Super League
According to Sport, Dembele's current contract expires in 2022 and to ensure that they don't lose him next summer Barca are set to offer the forward a deal that runs until 2025. It's understood the La Liga club are looking to resolve the situation between now and the end of the season. Any stumbling blocks regarding the extension will likely be down to Barcelona's current economic plight brought on by the pandemic and years of mismanagement of finances by the club.
In the event Dembele doesn't wish to stay and an agreement isn't reached , Sport also reveal that the player will be placed on the transfer market this summer with a number of clubs said to be eyeing the winger.
Dembele cost Barcelona in excess of £120m but up until this season, it would've been fair to say that he had failed to live up to expectations at Camp Nou. If his future isn't resolved soon, the club who already find themselves in financial trouble face the prospect of losing him on a free transfer in just over a year's time, therefore cashing in this summer would make sense.
Injuries have been an issue throughout his career in Spain and have limited him to just 110 appearances for Barca. The discussion around his future has been rumbling on for a number of seasons now but taking all of the above into consideration - it seems this summer represents a crossroads for both the club and Dembele.
