Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has tested positive for coronavirus, having previously caused controversy by failing to get vaccinated.
Kimmich has been forced to quarantine at home twice in recent times after coming into contact with someone who had COVID-19.
His most recent spell in isolation forced him to miss his side's Bundesliga defeat to Bavarian rivals Augsburg, as well as a narrow Champions League win over Dynamo Kyiv.
Things have now got worse for Kimmich with the Germany international returning a positive coronavirus test while in quarantine.
"Joshua Kimmich is self-isolating at home after testing positive for COVID-19. The FC Bayern midfielder is doing well," a club statement read on Wednesday evening.
Kimmich will now not be available for Bayern for 14 days, although he can return sooner if he tests negative.
He becomes the latest in a long line of Bayern players affected by COVID-19 this season. Earlier this month Niklas Sule, Josip Stanicic and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting all tested positive, while Jamal Musiala, Michael Cuisance and Serge Gnabry were instructed to quarantine on Sunday.
These absences come at an inconvenient time. Defeat to Augsburg trimmed their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to a single point over Borussia Dortmund - who they face in Der Klassiker on 4 December.
Kimmich could miss this huge game, as well as Die Roten's meeting with Arminia Bielefeld this weekend.
The midfielder did not rule out getting vaccinated in the future, but he remains unjabbed for now, explaining his decision in an interview last month.
"Because I just want to wait for myself when it comes to long-term studies. Nevertheless, I am aware of my responsibility. Of course, I adhere to the hygiene measures. It is also the case that we unvaccinated players at the club are tested every two or three days," he said.
Kimmich's reluctance to have the vaccine has been criticised as he and midfield partner Leon Goretzka previously started a relief campaign for businesses affected by the pandemic.
