The United States men’s national team faces Canada on Sunday to close out the 2021 Gold Cup group stage.

Though both nations have qualified for the knockout round of the tournament, the two will fight for the group’s top spot. Canada and the United States are currently tied with two wins and six points each, forcing the matchup to be the deciding factor.

Canada will look to continue their winning streak in hopes to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2007. The nation’s roster is laden with Major League Soccer players that play regularly with USMNT starters, making this game different from one against Martinique or Haiti.

The United States continue to prove themselves in Kansas City after head coach Gregg Berhalter categorized the team as 'resurgent'. Despite their uplifting results, Berhalter believes the American side has the potential to do more damage and will look to unleash that power against Canada.

Here's everything you need to know about the match…

The United States men’s national team secured their spot in the knockout round after a dominant 6-1 win over Martinique on Thursday. Multiple players contributed to the team’s victory, including two from Major League Soccer standout Daryl Dike. The team enters the match against Canada without Reggie Cannon, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, and possibly without injury-prone Paul Arriola after he limped off the match against Haiti in the 14th minute.

Canada has swiftly qualified for the next round of the tournament, despite facing roadblocks along the way. Star defender Alphonso Davies has been ruled out of the Gold Cup due to a severe ankle problem, while Scott Kennedy remains doubtful against the United States as he recovers from an injury. All eyes will be on players Cyle Larin and Stephen Eustaqio as they hope to overcome the USMNT’s defense.

Predicted lineups

USA: Turner; Pines, Zimmerman, Robinson, Vines; Acosta, Roldan, Lletget; Busio, Zardes, Gioacchini

Canada: Crepeau; Miller, Vitoria, Johnston; Buchanan, Eustaquio, Kaye, Osorio, Laryea; Larin, Hoilett

United States vs Canada head to head record

The United States dominates the record against Canada, with 17 victories out of a total 37 matches. Canada has only managed 10 wins against their North American rival, fueling the competition on Sunday’s match. The two previously met in the 2019 Concacaf Nations League, where the United States recorded a 4-1 triumph.

United States vs Canada score prediction

The American side will look to dominate Canada in hopes to emerge top of Group B, but Canada won’t be an easy competitor. Berhalter recognized that Canada has improved tremendously over the years, but the task to defeat the United States remains daunting and difficult. Dike and Gianluca Busio have been an unstoppable force for the USMNT, making it difficult for Canada to come out of the match victorious.

Prediction: United States 3-1 Canada
