Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for April.

The Villa manager enjoyed a fantastic month in which he helped his side to five Premier League wins in seven games - a run which included a hugely impressive 3-0 win over Newcastle United at Villa back on 15th April.

Emery has done an outstanding job with the Villans since taking the reins from Steven Gerrard in November 2022, taking the club from the edge of the relegation zone to potential European qualification at the end of the 2022/23 season.

This is the first time the Spanish coach has won the Premier League Manager of the Month award having previously been nominated in January and March of this year. Emery is current in the midst of his second stint in the league having previously managed Arsenal between May 2018 and November 2019.

Speaking about his team's recent form ahead of their upcoming trip to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Emery said: “We were being very successful away and being very competitive away. We started with some doubts at home before the last five matches that we won.

“Now, it’s very different because at home we are feeling very strong, we are being very competitive, we are winning difficult matches and playing very well.

“Away, in the last three matches, we aren’t playing like we were before. We were being competitive but it wasn’t enough to get three points in Brentford, Manchester and Wolves. That is an issue I am working to analyse with the players.

“Overall, we are making very good progress, individually and collectively, as a team. I am going to try to get our best performance on Saturday.”
