UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against the FA relating to the behaviour of England fans during the Euro 2020 final, which Italy won following a penalty shootout.

The first set of UEFA charges relate specifically to the behaviour of fans inside the stadium.

The four charges cover the invasion of the field of play by its supporters, the throwing of objects by its supporters, disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem and the lighting of a firework by its supporters.

The case has been referred to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

The FA has already been fined €30,000 by UEFA as a result of disciplinary proceedings relating to the Euro 2020 semi-final against Denmark when, among things, one fan shone a laser pen at Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as he was preparing to face a penalty.

As well as bringing charges for the scenes during the final, UEFA is additionally launching a separate investigation into events that unfolded inside and around the stadium.

There were scenes of carnage across London in the hours that lead up to the game, with the alcohol-fuelled hooligan-type behaviour reaching Wembley Stadium. Groups of fans stormed the stadium and were able to force entry without tickets, creating havoc and enormous safety concerns.

More information on the second investigation will be released in due course.
