UEFA set to allow Juventus into 2021/22 Champions League following Super League plot

UEFA have told Juventus that they will be permitted to compete in the 2021/2022 Champions League, despite their attempts to form a breakaway Super League in April.

The Bianconeri were one of 12 clubs who were part of the widely condemned plot. The Premier League's so-called big six - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham - were the first to pull out of the plans, with Milan, Inter and Atletico Madrid following suit soon after.

Meanwhile, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona - who were the ringleaders of the project - remained committed to the Super League until the bitter end.

Rumours of punishments for the trio have been rife, with some even suggesting that UEFA could prevent them from competing in next season's Champions League. However, as reported by Romeo Agresti, Juventus have received confirmation that they will be allowed to enter.

The Old Lady barely qualified for the Champions League in the first place, spending a significant portion of the campaign outside the Serie A top four. Napoli's failure to beat Hellas Verona on the final day of the season saw them clinch the final qualification place by a single point. Their poor performance saw Andrea Pirlo sacked with Max Allegri re-appointed as his successor last month.

With Juventus allowed into the Champions League, confirmation that both Real and Barcelona will also be permitted to compete should follow soon.

The news follows a trend of light punishment for the 12 breakaway clubs. Recently it was announced that the Premier League sides involved would be fined an embarrassing £3.6m each for their involvement. Saying that, if they unsuccessfully attempt to form another breakaway competition they will be hit with a 30-point deduction.
