Tyler Adams has been voted the 2022 US Soccer Male Player of the Year following his role captaining the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 23-year-old played every single minute as the Stars and Stripes went unbeaten in Group B against England, Wales, and Iran before exiting with a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands in the round-of-16.

At club level, Adams - a product of the New York Red Bulls - enjoyed a stellar year, emerging as one of Leeds United's most important players following his move from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Named among five finalists, Adams received a massive 71.6% share of the vote for the award, some way clear of Christian Pulisic (14.7%) and Matt Turner (8.2%) in second and third, respectively.

“Receiving this type of recognition is certainly special, but for me, the team’s success is the most important thing,” Adams said in a statement. “Having the experience of going to the World Cup, performing well as a group and moving the sport forward in the United States was super important to me this year, and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”

First award in 1984, Adams is the 26th player to be named US Soccer Male Player of the Year.
