US men’s national team midfielder Tyler Adams will not be called up for the March international window after sustaining a hamstring injury in training with Leeds United this week.

Adams was expected to join the American side in March for the Nations League matches against Grenada and El Salvador, but will instead remain at Leeds' Thorp Arch training base for 'further assessment' and rehabilitation.

The injury stands as a blow for interim manager Anthony Hudson, who depended on Tyler Adams to solidify the midfield. The USMNT must now rely on Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, Brenden Aaronson and Christian Pulisic.

The United States currently sit in second place of Group D with four points in two games and a record of 1W-1D-0L. The USMNT must win their two matches, and overcome first place El Salvador to advance past the tournament's group stage.

The team stands as the reigning champions, triumphing 3-2 against rival Mexico in the final in 2021 as goals from Pulisic, McKennie and Gio Reyna sealed the deal. The USMNT will be looking to hold on to the trophy, calling up vital figures in Europe to reinforce the otherwise MLS-based squad.
