Manchester United have got their man...sort of: Ralf Rangnick is set to be named as the club's interim boss until the end of the season, when a permanent appointment will be made.

The 63-year-old German will replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Old Trafford dugout on a six-month contract, after which he'll take up a consultancy role for a further two years.

It all seems pretty...smart?!

Needless to say there was plenty of excitement (even though 80% of Football Twitter couldn't claim to have seen a Rangnick team in action) - mainly because of his influence on some of the very best coaches in the game, including Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel, and young Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Others weren't so convinced by his track record, despite his reputation as a pioneer of the Gegenpress...

The imminent appointment puts a pin in Man Utd's pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino until the end of the season at least, when he will likely be the favourite for the vacancy once again.

Weirdly, he doesn't seem to be the popular choice...

But spare a thought for Luke Shaw...

And to finish, it turns out Rangnick has had a stint in English football before...
