Twitter Reacts to Horrendous Manchester United Defending Against Istanbul Basaksehir
By Ali Rampling

Manchester United found themselves 2-0 down inside 40 minutes against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, producing some bizarre defending as their backline were given the runaround by a 35-year-old Demba Ba.
The former Chelsea forward was inexplicably left unmarked and allowed to run clean through from the halfway line to open the scoring in the Turkish capital, United defending as if they were chasing a last minute equaliser in the cup final - as opposed to it actually being 0-0 after 11 minutes in their third Champions League group game.

35 year old Demba Ba has scored against Manchester United more times in 2020 (1) than shots on target Martial has in the league this season (0) ????

It was quite the blast from the past for Premier League fans, Ba rolling back the years like he was playing under Alan Pardew during Newcastle's glorious 2010s .
has Demba Ba really just scored against my club in 2020 or have I stuck premier league years on by mistake

Images of the former Chelsea forward charging forward from the halfway line completely unchallenged elicited complicated emotions for Liverpool fans.

United then attempted to outdo themselves defensively as Basaksehir extended their lead.
Juan Mata was dispossessed in the right back position, Ba produced a masterful dummy and Edin Višća was presented with all the time and space in the world to pick his spot, lashing his effort past the helpless Dean Henderson.
How is it possible to be in this defensive position? ? pic.twitter.com/p81ets8Md3

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's weekly Champions League tactical masterclass was not quite repeated after that as, even though Marcus Rashford a goal back, the Red Devils were unable to find an equaliser.
