Manchester United were beaten by Young Boys in stoppage time in their opening Champions League game of the season, a bitter pill to swallow after Cristiano Ronaldo had given the visitors an early lead at the Wankdorf Stadium in Switzerland’s capital.

But the game hinged on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s dismissal in the first half, with Young Boys making their man advantage count, getting back on level terms and ultimately sealing a comeback win when Jesse Lingard inadvertently gifted Jordan Siebatcheu a 95th minute winner.

It was particularly disappointing for United as it had all started so well...

However, it swiftly went downhill from there - Wan Bissaka's red card followed by an equaliser and that awful late mistake from Lingard.

Inevitably, that led to some mocking Lingard - who has only just won his place back in United's squad...

There was some support for Lingard, though - with messages of support helping to balance out the unnecessary negativity towards his error.

The whole night was summed up in two emotions - ecstasy and agony...
