Twitter reacts as England book their place in the final of Euro 2020

England made history on Wednesday night as they reached their first ever European Championship final with a 2-1 extra-time win over Denmark at Wembley Stadium.

Naturally on such a momentous occasion, everyone was desperate to share their thoughts on the night, so let's dig in to some of the best action from Twitter.

The first big talking point of the night came prior to kick off - no, not the team selection, THE LITTLE CAR WAS BACK!

After a frantic opening the game began to settle, and slowly but surely the England nerves began to jangle.

One of the most impressive players for the Three Lions at the tournament so far had been Jordan Pickford, but the Everton man had England fans hiding behind their sofa with some rash decision making and poor distribution. Was the dreaded Pickford mistake about to arrive?

Well, it would be harsh to call it a 'mistake', but he definitely should have done much better as
Mikkel Damsgaard smashed a free-kick beyond him - despite the effort looking pretty central.

Eugh, not this again, it's happening again isn't it?

Or maybe it's not, because less than ten minutes later England were level thanks to Simon Kjaer's own goal - is it possibly coming home!?

England started the second half much like they'd started the first, yet having watched Kasper Schmeichel make a string of impressive saves they were once again denied by the Leicester shot-stopper as he somehow clawed Harry Maguire's header away from goal.

Both sides pushed for a winner late on with Southgate throwing Jack Grealish into the mix to try and unpick the Danish defence, but nothing they tried could break down Kasper Hjulmand's side's stubborn backline as the game headed for extra time - something you can imagine everyone was delighted about.

The start of the first period of extra time was all England, yet still the Three Lions couldn't find a way past Schmeichel to bag themselves a winner, then Raheem Sterling drifted past Joakim Maehle who brought the City man down to concede a penalty.

Harry Kane stepped up to take the penalty and despite Schmeichel keeping his spot kick out the England man followed in to hand his side a 2-1 lead. Is it coming home!?!?!

Denmark pushed for an equaliser but it wasn't to be as England finally booked their place at a European Championship final for the first time in their history.
