Twitter reacts as Mark Noble misses dramatic penalty in Man Utd win over West Ham

Just when the Championship thought it'd won the 'moment of the season so far' award thanks to Henri Lansbury literally volleying an opposition player, the Premier League stepped up to remind us all why it's the best league in the world.

Manchester United looked to have snatched all three points at the death against West Ham United, after ex-Hammer hero Jesse Lingard curled a stunning strike into the top corner in the 90th minute to give his side a 2-1 lead.

But the Red Devils still had time to almost muck it up, handing West Ham a penalty with virtually the last kick of the game. Club legend Mark Noble charged onto the field to take responsibility for the kick, and with his first touch of the game he helped David de Gea save his first penalty in about 700 attempts.

All in all, it was blockbuster stuff. And you guys on Twitter loved it.

Man Utd started slowly, and fell behind on the half-hour mark, when Said Behrahma's deflected shot bamboozled De Gea and nestled into the bottom corner of the net. The knives were already being sharpened for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer online.

Man Utd were back level five minutes later though, thanks to that man Cristiano Ronaldo. He followed up his own header to tap home, and after VAR had threatened to ruin his day, the goal was awarded.

The real drama was saved for the final five minutes, however. Substitute Lingard came on and made the difference against the team who helped revive his career in the second half of last season, whipping a stunner into the top corner to seemingly snatch the win.

The goal also allowed Lingard to make up for his horrid mistake in midweek, which cost Man Utd a point away at Young Boys.

But there was still time for the real drama to go down. Ronaldo almost burst a blood vessel in his head screaming for a penalty following a rough tackle from Kurt Zouma (he had a point, in fairness), but with a minute to play, it seemed irrelevant.

But it became an extremely relevant talking point when Luke Shaw gave away a penalty of his own for handball seconds later, and West Ham hero Mark Noble came off the bench to take the resulting spot-kick.

Jogging on to the tune 'I can be your hero, baby," by Enrique Iglesias, Noble stepped up to the ball - and missed.

For once, De Gea actually saved a penalty, ending his run of failing to save a spot-kick in roughly 2,352 attempts.

But let's give a hand to De Gea, who finally got his penalty save and ended the game as Man Utd's hero.
