The Tottenham lineup that should start against Leicester
The end of the 2020/21 season can't come quick enough for Tottenham fans.
The club is in disarray, with its best player signalling his desire to leave and supporters disenfranchised with how it's being run, but there is one final game to get out of the way before the curtain comes down on a campaign that started with optimism but quickly turned ugly.
With a place in Europe still to be earned, in either the Europa League or Europa Conference League, here's the side Ryan Mason should pick for the trip to Leicester on Sunday.
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Hugo Lloris (GK) - Things could have been much worse this season without Lloris between the sticks. Does have the occasional blip but has had little certainty over who's been playing in front of him, which is always a nightmare for goalkeepers.
Serge Aurier (RB) - Aurier is someone who could definitely be playing his final game for the club on Sunday. In between his brainfarts and erratic penalty giveaways have been some decent performances, but this transfer will definitely go down as a failure.
Toby Alderweireld (CB) - Should have played more than his 24 league games this season. Isn't quite his imperious 2015/16 self these days but still markedly better than Spurs' other options.
Eric Dier (CB) - Has made a few too many defensive clangers over the course of the season - some enforced by previous manager's style of play, some of his own doing. Either way, Tottenham need to look at their defensive options in the summer and Dier could be a casualty. That said, he'll start on Sunday.
Sergio Reguilon (LB) - Scorer of one of the Premier League's funniest own goals ever in the Villa defeat, Reguilon had a shocker on Wednesday. Ben Davies remains out injured, so the Spaniard will have a chance to put some icky performances right here.
2. Midfielders
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (DM) - A largely promising debut season comes to an end for Hojbjerg. Will need to be on the top of his game to deal with the forward runs from players like James Maddison and Youri Tielemans.
Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - Divides opinion among the Spurs fanbase but is currently one of the best midfield options the club has. Has featured regularly since Mason's arrival.
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - Big emphasis on the 'should start' from the title on Ndombele's inclusion here. Harry Winks had a tough night against Aston Villa and Spurs will need someone with more presence and comfort on the ball against Leicester's dynamic midfield. Should he start? Absolutely. Will he? Probably not.
3. Forwards
Gareth Bale (RW) - The Welshman has got his season of regular-ish football ahead of the Euros, returning 14 goals in all competitions. His future is just as uncertain as the next man's.
Harry Kane (ST) - Off in the summer for bigger and better things? Kane's certainly made his views known over the past week or so, but he's got one final game left this season to claim the Golden Boot - he's currently tied with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah on 22 goals.
Son Heung-min (LW) - The South Korean is due a summer of rest and should get it after South Korea's World Cup qualifiers. Has looked pretty knackered over the last few months but will be looking to add to his 17 league goals and ten assists this season here.
