Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have reached a mutual decision to part ways with head coach Antonio Conte.

The Italian was expected to leave his post in the first week of the international break following an explosive press conference in wake of their 3-3 draw with Southampton, lashing out at his players and suggesting ownership should be questioned for the club's trophy record.

Tottenham waited until late on Sunday night to announce his departure, revealing in a statement: "We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future.

"Cristian Stellini will take the team as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach."

Club chairman Daniel Levy added: "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters."

Conte first joined Tottenham in November 2021 as a successor to Nuno Espirito Santo, five months after spurning Spurs' initial advances following his sudden departure from Inter.

Against the odds, Conte guided Tottenham to a fourth-placed finish in his first season, leapfrogging rivals Arsenal in a memorable and dramatic final fortnight of the 2021/22 campaign.

But Spurs have failed to kick on this season and ironically find themselves in a similar position to this time last year. They were knocked out of the FA Cup embarrassingly by lower league opposition while they put up little fight against AC Milan on their way out of the UEFA Champions League at the last 16 stage.

Conte's frustrations raced to the surface following last week's collapse at Premier League basement club Southampton - a match which proved to be his last at Tottenham.

Who could replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham?

90min has previously reported that Tottenham retain an interest in the likes of Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Marco Silva and former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Another target that has emerged in recent days is Julian Nagelsmann following his shock dismissal by Bayern Munich on Friday.

90min revealed this weekend that Nagelsmann has admirers at Spurs though they had not decided on their next course of action - a process which may hasten now that Conte's departure has been confirmed.
