Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed Steven Bergwijn will make his return from injury in Tottenham's Europa Conference League clash with Vitesse on Thursday.

Bergwijn started each of Tottenham's opening three games as Spurs went top of the Premier League with nine points, but an injury picked up during his time on international duty has kept him out of action for over a month.

Speaking ahead of Thursday's game, Nuno revealed the Dutchman is set to start in the absence of a number of other squad members who will stay in England.

He said: "Stevie started the season very, very well. Unfortunately he got injured in the national team and since then he's been struggling but he's now getting back.

"It's about getting him stronger, fitter and faster and he's a very talented player. He's very unique inside our squad and he can give us a lot. We need Stevie. I repeat myself, we need Stevie.

"He's going to start the game, he's going to play. He's feeling good so now play good. Be Stevie."

Nuno confirmed the ten outfield players who started the 3-2 victory over Newcastle on Sunday will remain in the United Kingdom, meaning Spurs will have to get a result without the likes of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

He added: "It's a squad and we have to make decisions, who will stay, who needs a rest and to recover. All of these decisions.

"No it's not about that [not caring about the competition]. If you're always thinking about the risk you cannot decide. It's about trying to analyse and seeing what's best for us this week and next week when we have another midweek game. We respect all competitions."

Spurs are currently top of their group, ahead of Rennes on goal difference. Meanwhile, Vitesse are third on three points.
