The Tottenham lineup that should start the Carabao Cup final
Tottenham have the opportunity to put a difficult week behind them when they contest the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Lilywhites have endured a rollercoaster seven days, which began when the club were revealed as one of six Premier League teams signed up to take part in a breakaway Super League.
Less than 72 hours after that announcement, Spurs - along with every other 'Big Six' club in England - had pulled out of the competition after widespread condemnation, and there was also the small matter of firing Jose Mourinho on Monday morning.
In the Tottenham hot seat between now and the end of the season is *checks notes* Ryan Mason, who aged 29 became the youngest Premier League manager in history when he oversaw a 2-1 win over Southampton on Thursday.
His real acid tests comes at Wembley though, as Spurs look to end City's domination of the Carabao Cup and lift their first piece of silverware since 2008. Here's who they should pick to get the job done...
Tottenham predicted lineup
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Hugo Lloris (GK) - Spurs are going to pick the strongest lineup possible, and there's no better way of starting off than with Lloris in net.
Serge Aurier (RB) - Every now and again, Aurier surprises you by doing something utterly brilliant. The problem is that he gives supporters serious chest pains with some of his other antics.
Toby Alderweireld (CB) - We all know that Tottenham's favourite Belgian hasn't been the same since bosom buddy Jan Vertonghen departed north London. He is, however, still the best on the books.
Eric Dier (CB) - Talent wise you could argue that Joe Rodon is a better central defender than Eric Dier. But combine the big occasion and top level experience and it's difficult to look past the England international.
Sergio Reguilon (LB) - Speaking of talent, Spurs have got a real star performer on the left in the form of former Real Madrid full-back Reguilon. Overlapping runs could be key to unlocking City.
2. Midfielders
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg (DM) - The chief breaker upper of play, Hojbjerg is everything you want in a defensive midfielder. Strong, tenacious in the tackle, he will never give up.
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - Second season syndrome has worked in reverse for Ndombele, though he still needs to work on delivering consistent top notch performances, rather than offering his class in short bursts.
Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - Mason has a big decision to make regarding shape, but Lo Celso - who is another who needs to work on his consistency - could get the nod in a balanced midfield three.
3. Forwards
Gareth Bale (RW) - Benched for the majority of Mourinho's tenure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Bale now has the chance to show us what we all know - he should be starting over Lucas Moura!
Harry Kane (ST) - He's absolutely not fit to start, is he? Try stopping him though.
Son Heung-min (LW) - Kane's chief partner in crime, Son has a pretty good record against City and will fancy his chances of netting in a stadium he once called home.
