Tottenham Hotspur have announced that defender Ashley Phillips has joined Championship side Plymouth Argyle on loan for the rest of the season.

Phillips joined Spurs from Blackburn Rovers back in August and regularly featured in matchday squads so far this term, but the 18-year-old has not yet made his debut for the north Londoners.

With Tottenham on the hunt for another senior centre-back this month, Phillips has been granted the opportunity to leave on loan and he has joined Plymouth on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

Argyle recently appointed Ian Foster, who most recently assisted Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq, as their new head coach following the departure of Steven Schumacher to Stoke City. Following promotion as champions from League One last season, Plymouth are currently 18th in the Championship table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has been vocal about the need for the club to bring in depth at centre-back during the January transfer window, while he also insisted a potential injury to Ben Davies should not Spurs from selling Eric Dier. The England international is reported to have agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich and the German champions are now weighing up their options.

Meanwhile, Tottenham remain in talks with Genoa over the signing of Romania international Radu Dragusin and a deal to take Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig with an option to buy should be announced early this week.
