Liverpool recorded just their third Premier League away win of the season as they produced a dominant display to beat Tottenham 3-1 on Thursday night.
Both sides spurned a number of chances early on though it was the visitors who eventually took the lead shortly before the interval. Good work down the Liverpool left saw Sadio Mane lay the ball on a plate for Robert Firmino who duly applied the finish.
Liverpool doubled their advantage just a minute into the second half, with Trent Alexander-Arnold smashing home after a poor clearance from Hugo Lloris, though the lead was instantly halved by
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's sensational long-range strike.
Midway through the second half Liverpool restored their two-goal advantage thanks to a superbly taken strike from Mane after more excellent work from Alexander-Arnold, as Jurgen Klopp's side secured all three points.
Let's get into some player ratings.
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Hugo Lloris (GK) - 5/10 - Produced a brilliant save to keep the scores at 0-0 in the first half but let himself down with a shocking parry away which allowed Liverpool the chance to double their lead.
Joe Rodon (CB) - 5/10 - Ran ragged by the lethal Liverpool front three. A real eye opener for him in terms of the levels required in the Premier League.
Eric Dier (CB) - 4/10 - Having started the season in fine form he's beginning to show the lapses in concentration which saw him lose his place in the Spurs starting XI at one point. Culpable for Liverpool's opener as he let the ball roll across the six-yard box before Firmino applied the finish.
Ben Davies (CB) - 6/10 - The best of the three Spurs centre-backs. Stuck to his task despite a difficult evening and limited Mohamed Salah to speculative efforts.
2. Midfielders & Wing-backs
Serge Aurier (RWB) - 5/10 - Couldn't provide the attacking intent needed from a wing-back due to the marauding Mane running in behind him.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - 7/10 - Superb strike in the second half. Combative throughout and kept things ticking over whenever Spurs were on the ball.
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - 5/10 - After weeks of sensational performances he failed to produce on the big occasion. Overrun by the Liverpool three and struggled to get a grip on proceedings.
Matt Doherty (LWB) - 6/10 - Attempted to offer an outlet down the Tottenham left but couldn't impact play as he would have liked.
Steven Bergwijn (RW) - 5/10 - Plenty of work rate and endeavour but very little to show for his efforts. A very similar story to a lot of his recent Spurs performances.
Harry Kane (ST) - 5/10 - Failed to really have an impact on the game and was withdrawn at half-time after a nasty collision with Jordan Henderson which left him clutching his ankle.
Son Heung-min (LW) - 6/10 - Looked to have handed his side the lead early on but was denied by the tightest of offside decisions. Continued to look lively and kept the Liverpool backline honest.
Erik Lamela (RW) - 5/10
Harry Winks (CM) - 6/10
Gareth Bale (RW) - 5/10
5. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Alisson (GK) - 7/10 - Made a huge save in the first half to keep the scores at 0-0. Little he could do about Hojbjerg's stunning strike. Looked dependable all evening.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) - 8/10 - Comfortably his best performance of the season. It was clear from the off he was playing with a swagger and once he slotted home Liverpool's second he only got better. Excellent assist for Mane who added the third.
Jordan Henderson (CB) - 7/10 - Looked much more comfortable than he had done at home to Burnley a week ago. Distributed play nicely and was composed throughout.
Joel Matip (CB) - 7/10 - Liverpool just look a stronger team with him in the side. Not afraid to stick his head in where it hurts and seems to reassure those around him.
Andy Robertson (LB) - 5/10 - Lung-busting runs throughout but very little end product. Defended well but was well and truly outshone by his full-back partner on the opposite flank.
Georginio Wijnaldum (CM) - 7/10 - Recycled possession all evening and produced a brilliantly well-rounded display. His energy and drive was a big part of the reason the Reds midfield overpowered Spurs'.
Thiago Alcantara (CM) - 7/10 - The metronome inside the centre circle. Cool, classy and composed - never put a foot wrong and just made the difficult look normal.
James Milner (CM) - 6/10 - Asked to fill in in the midfield and didn't let Klopp down. Looked to spread the play where possible and didn't stop running.
Mohamed Salah (RW) - 6/10 - Not his most eventful evening but put a good shift in for the team and continuously tried to stretch the Tottenham backline.
Roberto Firmino (ST) - 8/10 - Reminded Liverpool fans just how crucial he is to the club with his first-half strike. Showed good movement throughout and linked up play well.
Sadio Mane (LW) - 7/10 - Should have handed his side the lead in the opening minutes but was uncharacteristically wasteful. Didn't let the early miss deter him and produced a fine assist for Firmino.
Nathaniel Phillips (CB) - 6/10
Divock Origi (ST) - N/A
Curtis Jones (CM) - 6/10
