Toronto FC kicked-off the 2024 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by selecting forward Tyrese Spicer from Lipscomb.

Spicer, who played as a winger during his collegiate career, brings four years of playing experience in the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) with the Bisons. From 2020-2023, Spicer tallied 29 goals and 18 assists in 57 appearances (34 starts) for Lipscomb.

Spicer's last season in the ASUN saw him set a career high in goals scored (14), while he dished out seven assists in back-to-back years in 2021 & 2022.

"We are thrilled to select Tyrese with the number one overall pick after an exemplary NCAA career," said Toronto general manager Jason Hernandez.

"Tyrese possesses a unique combination of technical and physical qualities that align with our player profile and tactical blueprint. He also has a resilient mindset and a drive to improve, which makes him a great fit for TFC. We look forward to working with Tyrese to accelerate his growth as a player and person while helping us achieve our goals as a club."

The 2023 ASUN Player of the Year will be a welcomed addition to the TFC attacking department, as the team mustered up just 26 goals scored across 34 regular season games, the worst output in MLS in 2023 as the Reds finished in last place in the league with 22 points.

With Spicer joining the Italian duo Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, the potential is there for an exciting forward group at BMO Field (should Spicer feature from the jump) when the team takes the field in 2023 under former Canada boss and first-year head coach John Herdman.
