Thomas Tuchel provides update on attempts to recall Emerson from loan
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Chelsea are in discussions to bring Emerson Palmieri back to the club this January.
Emerson is currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Lyon, becoming a key player for the club since joining in the summer.
However, with Ben Chilwell out for the foreseeable with knee ligament damage and Marcos Alonso's performances not being quite up to scratch, Chelsea are in dire need of some cover at wing-back.
Speaking to the press (via club's official website) ahead of the Blues' crucial clash with Liverpool on Sunday, Tuchel admitted that recalling Emerson is a possibility.
"We are looking into it because we now have a new situation with Ben Chilwell so of course we look into whether we can do something and what we can do," he said.
"One of the possibilities and the players we know and that we love as a person is Emerson but we need to check. We are not into details. We are discussing and reflecting and this will go on for the coming days, maybe weeks."
The 'details' of such a move could prove complicated. A report earlier in the week stated that Lyon had blocked Chelsea's attempts to recall the wing-back.
The French club have an option to sign Emerson permanently in the summer, and would have to give up that option to allow Chelsea to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.
As well as discussing Emerson, Tuchel also provided updates on Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Timo Werner's fitness.
"Andreas Christensen has the same back pain that he had before and which made him miss some games before but Thiago Silva is back in training," he added.
"Timo does not feel good. He’s the one who suffers the most from Covid and who is still struggling physically."
