Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that striker Romelu Lukaku will be fined for his controversial interview.

The Belgian has now apologised for his comments, which included voicing concerns over his situation at Stamford Bridge and a desire to return to former club Inter while he is still in the prime of his career.

Tuchel is keen to move on from the drama now, but did confirm that Lukaku will be fined as one last punishment for his actions.

“There will be some disciplinary action and he will accept it,” Tuchel said (via The Athletic).

“It happened and it’s not a small thing. But it’s not the biggest thing and does not make a comeback impossible, absolutely not. This is what we [will] prove now.

"But, something happened. He will be fined and of course he needs to accept it.”

While there was no formal mention of the size of the fine, reports in Italy have suggested Lukaku will be docked anywhere between €500,000 and €600,000 - roughly two weeks' wages.

Tuchel was also adamant that he feels no extra pressure on his shoulders from those in charge at Chelsea following the controversial interview.

“[There has not been] extra pressure because of the way that we dealt with it,” the boss continued.

“Petr [Cech], Marina [Granovskaia] and myself were very calm and very quick and very open. In the end it was very easy to deal with it — although we do not like to deal with it. We prefer not to have any noise.

“The pressure is part of my daily business. In general it is something we enjoy and it gives us a certain edge. In moments like this it’s necessary to take decisions and trust your leadership, to believe in what you do and to stay focussed, stay calm and show belief in the values that we implemented to work together. That’s what we did.”
