Interest in Wrexham AFC is growing with every passing week and, having now booked their place in League Two next season thanks to a win over Boreham Wood, that interest is only set to grow even more in the future.

The team is getting so much attention not just for their good form however, but also due to the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The film and TV stars have embraced everything about the sport and the club, becoming fan favourites in north east Wales in the process.

With more and more fans heading to the Racecourse Ground each week, and new sets of fans making the trip to Wrexham next season following their promotion to League Two, here is all that you need to know about the stadium.

Where is the Racecourse Ground?

There is nothing more annoying than when you arrive somewhere on the train ready to make your way to the stadium, and you realise that you've got a 45-minute walk ahead of you or public transport to try and navigate.

That is certainly not the case in Wrexham and it is something that endears the team to away fans. From the Wrexham General train station, it will take you a grand total of seven minutes to walk to the stadium.

Where can you drink near the Racecourse Ground?

The most notable pub near the Racecourse Ground is The Turf Hotel which has been a meeting point for Wrexham fans for over 150 years. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney paid the pub a visit for a couple of hours soon after they brought the club.

It will be extremely busy on each matchday but it is still worth trying to squeeze in for a drink if you don't fancy heading into the city centre, which is still just a 10 minute walk from the train station.

What is the history of the Racecourse Ground?

Wrexham's Racecourse Ground has got one particular claim to fame: it is the world's oldest international football stadium. This is because it hosted a Wales game back in 1887, and it has also hosted more Wales games than any other stadium.

Wrexham AFC was actually formed in the aforementioned Turf Hotel which is located right next to the stadium, so it was immediately clear where they would play.

The ground was used a lot for flying before World War One with displays often starting there, and there were plans to turn the area into Wrexham's airport, but they never came to fruition.

The capacity of the stadium today is 10,771, but there is no doubt that should Wrexham manage to start climbing up the football league the owners will be looking to get more and more people into the stadium. The team has been routinely selling out games this season and the general admission season tickets for the 2022/23 campaign sold out in just 12 hours.
