Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle has been named the PFA Vertu Motors WSL Fans' Player of the Month for February after receiving nearly half the total vote (42%).

Batlle finished top of the final poll, seeing off stiff competition from Manchester City trio Chloe Kelly, Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp, on-loan Aston Villa winger Kirsty Hanson and Leicester’s new star goalkeeper Janina Leitzig.

The Spaniard was massively influential as United climbed to the top of the WSL table during February, taking four points from two games against Everton and Tottenham.

When Everton arrived at Leigh Sports Village, Batlle put in a top performance at both ends o the pitch. She kept dangerous Toffees winger Jess Park under wraps.

Her attacking probing additionally forced the visiting Everton to switch things up, with Nicoline Sorensen later deployed to offer more defensive protection. It also took a top performance from left-back Gabby George to keep Batlle and United out.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a week later, Batlle got forward at every opportunity and was a consistent source of danger. An early goal was disallowed for offside when she crossed to Leah Galton, but another ball into the box later resulted in Galton opening the scoring in a 2-1 win.

Speaking about her nomination for this award, Batlle said, “It is always very welcome. I think that means that not just me but as a team we are doing good. Leah won one [Barclays WSL Player of the Month] and we’ve been nominated more than one time. We are doing good as a team.”
