Derby County forward David McGoldrick has won the PFA Vertu Motors League One Fans' Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 season.

The former Republic of Ireland international returned to the third tier for the first time in 10 years and enjoyed the most prolific season of his career.

McGoldrick registered 22 goals and five assists in 39 games for the Rams, who fought back from a slow start to the campaign and were only denied a play-off place on the final day of the season.

The 35-year-old finished third in the goal charts as well as the total goal involvement charts, scoring 32.8% of Derby's total goals in League One.

McGoldrick had to beat off stiff competition in order to take home the award. Hot on his heels was Ipswich Town revelation Conor Chaplin in second place, with the versatile forward grabbing 26 goals and five assists.

In third place came Bristol Rovers' Aaron Collins, who scored 16 goals and laid on 11 assists for a side mired in mid-table for much of the season.

Jonson Clarke-Harris enjoyed a stellar season at Peterborough United, grabbing 26 goals and five assists, finishing fourth in voting.

Plymouth Argyle's Finn Azaz, who spent the season on loan from Aston Villa, ranked fifth in voting, while Cheltenham Town's Alfie May came in sixth.

McGoldrick has since left Derby and returned to former club Notts County in League Two.
