The Tottenham Hotspur Lineup That Should Start Against Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur go into this weekend's north London derby knowing that a win will take them above their bitter rivals in the league table.

This will be the first visit that Arsenal make to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and is an opportunity for both sides to climb as high as sixth in the table.

On top of that, it will be the first time that Jose Mourinho faces Arsenal as Spurs manager. The Portuguese famously engaged in disputes with former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, including one incident when he labelled the Frenchman a "specialist in failure".

Here is the team that Mourinho could put out to face the Gunners.

1. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Hugo Lloris (GK) - The Spurs captain will likely keep his place in goal. The World Cup winner has kept three clean sheets in his previous four games.

Serge Aurier (RB) - With Juan Foyth and Japhet Tanganga both out injured, Aurier is Spurs' only fit right-back. The Ivorian has scored twice and assisted seven times in all competitions this season.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - The 31-year old is expected to keep his place in the starting XI, with Tottenham not having conceded a goal when he's been on the field since lockdown. Alderweireld has scored in a north London derby before back in March 2016.

Jan Vertonghen (CB) - Partnering Alderweireld could be fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen. Vertonghen is set to leave Spurs at the end of the season once his contract expires.

Ben Davies (LB) - Danny Rose's loan move to Newcastle United means that the Welshman is Spurs' only natural left-back. Davies scored against Arsenal while playing for Swansea in September 2013.

2. Midfielders

Moussa Sissoko (CM) - After missing large parts of the season prior to the break, Sissoko has started every game for Spurs since the restart. The French international needs one more goal to set a new personal best for Spurs in all competitions.

Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - Much like Sissoko, Lo Celso has started every game since the restart. The Argentine is still looking for his first Premier League goal.

Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - With Spurs looking uninspiring in recent weeks, perhaps it's time for Mourinho to take a gamble and actually start Ndombele. The former Lyon man looked promising when he netted on his debut against Aston Villa, but has since only registered one goal for the Lilywhites.

3. Forwards

Steven Bergwijn (RW) - January signing Steven Bergwijn may keep his spot in the starting XI this Sunday. The Dutchman has scored in every home appearance against a top half side this season.

Harry Kane (ST) - Kane will almost certainly start for Spurs. A goal against the Gunners will see Kane become the derby's outright all time top goalscorer, surpassing Bobby Smith and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Heung-min Son (LW) - Completing the lineup is likely to be South Korean international Heung-min Son. The 28-year old won the penalty that Kane stuck away in the reverse fixture at the Emirates.
