The Tottenham Hotspur lineup that should start against Newcastle

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur return to action on Sunday afternoon as they continue their push for a top four spot in the Premier League with a trip to St. James' Park.

Newcastle desperately need wins to avoid a bottom three finish, sitting just two points above 18th-placed Fulham. The Magpies are winless in six Premier League matches, and suffered a potentially-fatal 3-0 defeat to Brighton last time out.

The international break was a welcome one for Spurs as they followed a derby defeat to Arsenal with one of the most shocking European exits of all time - losing 3-0 to Dinamo Zagreb after going into the game with a 2-0 aggregate lead. Mourinho's men did, however, beat Aston Villa 2-0 last time out, using a new system to pick up a solid win with Harry Kane and Carlos Vinicius both scoring.

So, to continue winning ways and their push for the top four, here's the lineup that should start for Tottenham at Newcastle.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Hugo Lloris (GK) - The skipper returns from international duty in fine form, having impressed for France last week.

Serge Aurier (RB) - With Matt Doherty an injury doubt, Aurier should start at right-back on Sunday.

Dsvinson Sanchez (CB) - Started Spurs' last seven games and has put in some good shifts over the past couple months. Deserves to start once more.

Joe Rodon (CB) - Showed how good he can be on international duty with Wales, and with Eric Dier's taste for an occasional mishap, he should start for Spurs on Sunday.

Sergio Reguilon (LB) - Mourinho confirmed the Spaniard's return from injury recently, so he should be in line to provide his usual vigour down the left against Newcastle.

2. Midfielders

Lucas Moura (RM) - Was excellent against Villa last time out and grabbed an assist. Has earned his place in the starting XI.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - No Premier League player has made more tackles than his 79 this season. Crucial in that Spurs midfield.

Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - Not the most exciting international break with France, but he should be fresh enough to start alongside Hojbjerg for Mourinho.

Son Heung-min (LM) - Back from injury and back in the starting XI. Has been sorely missed in Spurs' last few games but will slot right back in to provide a real threat from the left.

3. Forwards

Carlos Vinicius (ST) - The two up top worked well last time out so the Brazilian might be in line for another start. He scored his tenth Tottenham goal against Villa, and will hope to build on that against a shaky Newcastle defence.

Harry Kane (ST) - Will be the more creative of the two, having already bagged a ridiculous 13 assists to go with his 17 goals this season. There's just no way he doesn't start.
